The task for the twelfth week is to create a form and cast something.
My idea was to cast a coin - 10 Czk. It turned out to be a bit tricky. I started by filling a bottom of a cup with Monster Clay, then I pressed the coin in and prepared small holes for subsequent steps. Then I used Rebound 25, which is two part forming silicon mixed in 1A:1B volume ratio. The working time is around 20 minutes and the curing time is 6 hours in normal conditions.
After it cured, you need to take the clay away and pour Rebound also from the other side. It is ideal to use duck tape or similar to create boundary for the silicon. My second half of the form was not ideal and the expoxid I use for casting was really liquid, so the final coin casting was not successful.
To make up for the fail, I decided to cast chocolate and create chocolate praline filled with salted caramel. I started by melting dark chocolate (Orion - Cooking chocolate) and pouring it in the silicon mold. I let it cool down and then added another layer of white chocolate (Orion - White). I put it in the fridge to cool again.
Now, it was time to make salted caramel. In a sauce pan, caramelize 20 g of sugar disolved in splash of water. When the sugar turn deep golden color, add 10 g of butter and mix well, be careful, it will be quite a reaction. Then, add 16 ml of heavy scream and mix again. Finally, add pinch of salt. Let it cool down a bit and just before starting to solidify, pour the salted caramel in the molds with chocolate.
And the final thing to do after the caramel cools down completely is to pour the last layer of dark chocolate. And after final chill, we can decorate with the rest of white chocolate.
I had to test the taste, and I must say, its good. But for the next time, I should work on the smoothness of the chocolate and get rid of all bubbles.
